A new set of services from ClearScale, an AWS Premier Tier Services Partner, help VMware customers who have been negatively impacted by Broadcom’s acquisition of VMware migrate to the cloud faster, easier and more successfully

San Francisco, CA, August 15, 2024 – AWS consultancy ClearScale announces the availability of its VMware-to-AWS Accelerator offering. This new set of services is designed for large and midsize enterprises that want to migrate their VMware environments to Amazon Web Services (AWS) infrastructure and modernize on the cloud.

Broadcom’s acquisition of VMware in 2023 signified not just a change in ownership but a strategic redirection for VMware – which some industry analysts believe could come at the expense of product innovation and customer service. For example, VMware is moving away from perpetual licensing to a subscription-based model. This means customers no longer own their licenses indefinitely, but will instead pay recurring fees to maintain access to VMware products.

Meanwhile, the VMware Partner Connect Program has been terminated, and there has been a reorganization of the specialist counterparts to the general core sales teams. This restructuring reduces the variety of partner options available to VMware customers, potentially limiting their choices for service and support. Reseller agreements with AWS were also terminated, requiring customers to go direct with Broadcom for procurement of VMware Cloud on AWS. This leaves customers in a precarious situation, uncertain about what larger costs would mean for their applications.

ClearScale’s VMware-to-AWS Offering Lowers Costs and Accelerates Innovation

In response to these changes, many VMware customers are reevaluating their setups and considering alternatives – Forrester estimates up to 20% of VMware customers will migrate away from the platform. This includes companies moving to cloud providers like AWS, which offers a stable suite of services and a customer-centric approach to innovation and support.

ClearScale’s new offerings, which leverage AI and are based on the firm’s proven cloud migration methodology, includes three services that were designed to make an AWS move faster, easier and more successful. The services, which have been in development since last year, are:

• VMware Exit Assessment powered by AI: This service includes comprehensive, AI-driven analysis of a company’s VMware environment to identify cost savings. ClearScale experts will review the analysis with customers to understand the current consumption, cost and provisioning of VMware workloads, and what their footprint would look like in AWS. ClearScale will also provide a customized roadmap for transitioning to AWS, complete with an estimate of the professional services effort required.
• VMware Cloud (VMC) on AWS Exit Assessment powered by AI: This service employs AI to assess a company’s current VMware Cloud on AWS environment, and develop a comprehensive strategy for exiting to AWS cloud-native services. It identifies potential cost savings by transitioning to more cost-effective AWS solutions, reducing overall IT expenditures, and leverages insights to modernize a company’s infrastructure, supporting innovation and accommodating future growth with scalable cloud services.
• SA On-Demand - VMware/VMC Exit Strategy: This service includes no-cost, one on one access to ClearScale’s AWS-certified Solutions Architects, who possess comprehensive expertise in AWS cloud design and implementation, including cloud strategy, in-depth technical know-how and cost-benefit analysis. ClearScale experts can offer guidance on infrastructure and architecture design, DevOps, automation, licensing rationalization/optimization, high availability and self-healing.
